ForgeBoard Privacy Policy

        The short version: ForgeBoard has no internet permission.
        The operating system physically prevents the keyboard from sending anything, anywhere.
        We collect nothing, transmit nothing, and sell nothing - because the app is incapable of it.
      

What ForgeBoard processes on your device

Keystrokes are handled entirely inside the keyboard app to type into the field you're using. They are never logged or transmitted.
Personal dictionary. Words you type can be learned to improve predictions. This list is stored only in the app's private storage on your device, is never uploaded (the app cannot upload), and can be erased at any time with Settings → Forget learned words. Nothing is learned in password fields.
Clipboard. The optional clipboard bar keeps up to 10 recent items in memory only - never written to disk - and auto-clears them after the timer you choose (30 seconds up to 8 hours). Nothing is captured from password fields or while the keyboard is hidden. One exception: if you explicitly PIN a clip, that pinned text is saved in the app's private storage on your device so it survives a restart, and it is exempt from the auto-clear timer until you unpin or clear it. Don't pin passwords or codes. Pinned clips never leave the device - the app cannot transmit them.
AI actions. Text transforms (clean-up, grammar, tone, custom prompts) run entirely on your device: on supported phones through Android's built-in AICore service (Google's Gemini Nano model, hosted by the operating system), and otherwise through ForgeBoard's built-in rule engine. In both cases the text never leaves your phone - ForgeBoard still has no internet permission.
Per-app profiles. If you save a profile for an app, ForgeBoard stores that app's package name alongside your chosen settings, in its own private storage, so it knows which look to wear where. It is never transmitted.
Backups you create. The backup file you export contains your settings and your personal dictionary in readable form, and is written to the location you pick. Treat it as you would any personal file.
Fonts, GIFs, photos, and sounds you import. Font files, GIFs, background photos, and audio you choose as a key sound are copied into the app's private storage on your device so the keyboard can use them. They are never uploaded (the app cannot upload), and GIFs are inserted into apps directly from your own library - no GIF search service is involved. Imported audio is trimmed to a fraction of a second and stored only as a key-click waveform.
Theme sharing. Sharing a theme creates a short line of text describing your colors, which your phone's normal share sheet passes to whatever app you pick. ForgeBoard itself sends nothing and has no theme server; imported background photos and font files are never included in a shared code.
Voice typing. Dictation uses your device's built-in speech recognizer. On Android 12+ ForgeBoard requires the on-device recognizer, so audio is transcribed locally. On older Android versions the system recognizer is asked to prefer offline mode, but that system service (not ForgeBoard) may use the network - if that concerns you, simply don't use the microphone key. ForgeBoard itself only ever receives the transcribed text, never stores audio, and cannot transmit either.

Permissions

Vibrate - key-press haptic feedback.
Microphone - voice typing only, only while you toggle it on, and only after you grant it. Optional; the keyboard is fully functional without it.
Internet - deliberately absent. You can verify this yourself in Android Settings → Apps → ForgeBoard → Permissions.

What we collect

Nothing. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no accounts.

ForgeBoard does bundle Google's on-device ML Kit libraries so it can talk to Android's built-in AICore service for the AI writing features. Like every other line of code in this app, those libraries have no network access whatsoever: ForgeBoard does not hold the INTERNET permission, so Android blocks any network call regardless of which library attempts it. That is a stronger guarantee than a promise not to transmit - the app is structurally incapable of transmitting.

Two network events can happen near ForgeBoard but are performed by Android itself, not by this app: the one-time download of the on-device AI model by Android's AICore service, and the system emoji font update. Neither passes through ForgeBoard, and neither carries anything you typed.

Data sharing and sale

None. There is no data to share or sell, and no mechanism by which it could leave the device.

Children

ForgeBoard collects no data from anyone, including children.

Reporting AI output

ForgeBoard's rewrite, proofread and Ask AI features use Google's Gemini Nano on your device. If one of them ever produces something offensive or unsafe, you can report it from Settings → About & legal → Report offensive AI output. That opens your own email app with a message you can edit or cancel - ForgeBoard cannot send it for you, because it has no network access.

Changes

If a future version ever changes any of the above (for example, an optional cloud feature), this policy will be updated first and the change will require a new, explicit permission grant.
